Good afternoon everyone!!!
Today we went out looking for garage sales. We didn't find to much but we were able to get the rest of the pieces that we needed to finish a project that we are working on.
Last week we did a Mothers day giveaway for a fans on Facebook. we had people post their moms names on a post and then we did a drawing from those. once we had a winner we wanted to do a unique gift for them.
On pinterest a couple of weeks ago I found a post about taking an old drawer and painting it and add a tea pot and teacup to it to make a birdhouse and thought this would be the perfect gift for this mom.
here is what we did:
we painted the drawer with a beautiful blue color that we had on hand, which we then waxed so that when we added the second color and distress it the blue wouldn't rub off. after the paint and the wax was completely dry we added the second color which was a light green that we got a couple of weeks ago. all we did with this color was dry brush it on and then use a cloth to rub it off so that it gave it a two toned look. once we let that sit overnight we added polyurethane to it so that it could stay outside, and finally we added the teapot and the teacup to finish up the look.
I absolutely love the way that this project turned out and think the person who it will go to will love it as well.
thank you all for all your support and please comment on this post and tell us what you think of our current project.
Thanks,
Marie and Dorane

Introducing Color Me Shabby
Hello Everyone!
If you are joining us from our Facebook page then we are so glad that you are checking out our new website. We know that we had a few requests to get a website up and running and we figured that this could be the first step. At the top of the page as you clicked over from our facebook page you can see all the links to the different pages that we have up and going.
If you are joining us from out there on the web then welcome to color me shabby. Let me tell you a little about each of the owners of this business. They are a mother daughter team who enjoy redoing, re-purposing, and reusing vintage furniture to make it new again. First there is Dorane she is the mom of the 2, she is 51 and has 3 children 2 boys and 1 girl. She also has a 5 year old granddaughter. Then there is Marie, as you already know she is the daughter of the group. she 27 years old.
We exclusively use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in all the painting that we do. We love the way it coats everything and the wax that goes with it makes all the furniture we do look great.
We also wanted to give you all a look at what we have done in the past so that you know what to expect in the future for this blog.
The first piece that I am going to show you was a rocking chair that Dorane did. It was in great shape when we got it, and the only thing it really needed was a new paint job. she first painted it in Old White and then added violet it the sides and the back to give it a splash of color. was it was painted she figured it needed something extra so she found this great family quote to add on to it as well.
next we have a wooden kitchen cabinet that we worked on together. this one took a little bit extra as we added wood filler to parts that were damaged to make all the pieces smooth. the other thing that the original piece had was a stand on the bottom that we took off as it was making the cabinet very uneven. once all that was finished and sanded we added the colors Florence and providence to it and then waxed with clear wax and took it to our booth.

OK now we have a personal favorite of mine. this one is a dresser that we got and again we added wood filler to parts of it and then sanded it down and turned out great. we painted it Florence, providence, and then added duck egged colored stencils to the top. because the top of the dresser gets used a lot we didn't wax it, instead we used polyurethane on it and then waxed the rest of the dresser. this was one we couldn't part with so it was kept and is now the dresser in my room.
OK this one is a great this is an old hope chest that we found and again it is one that we didn't part with. we painted it Paris grey and graphite and decoupaged images to the top.
this one is a nightstand that we did that we only had one of. it is pained Henrietta, and graphite. I then decoupaged book pages to the top of it. this is another one where instead of waxing the top we used polyurethane on it as it is such a high used area. I love this one as it is very me. we used a book I love and again it is in my room being used by me.
OK last picture for this post. this is a recent picture of our booth that we opened last July at The Fussy Duck in Salem Oregon. as you can see we sell all types of home decor, and will do more blog posts on the things that we are working on.
We would love to hear from all of you here in blog land, and find out what you would like to see us work on and blog about. Please look to the top of the page and see all the different sites we are also on, and please head on over to our Facebook page that we update every time we are working on something new. we also do giveaways over on Facebook all the time as well.
Thank you,
Marie and Dorane
